Daniel Harney is a Gilroy City Council Member and acting Mayor Pro Tempore. He was first appointed to city council in December 2015 and is serving his second appointment.
During his nearly 3 years on the council, Dan has been a champion for improving public safety, upgrading city IT technologies and infrastructure, improving our local streets and rebooting Gilroy’s economic development programs.
Current Issues
As a father of three young children, I believe that our community must continue to invest in public safety. Our town is facing increasing financial pressures on the budget to fund essential services. We need to begin planning today for the future.
Why I am Running
Gilroy has a bright future but our city is facing some challenges. I have the experience needed to keep our momentum and improve the quality of life for residents and businesses. I am deeply committed to our community and I am capable of making tough decisions.

What I’ve Done
Key accomplishments that I am particularly proud of include passing a balanced, zero-based budget, improving our streets maintenance program and delivering environmental policies that make sense for Gilroy.
